Kelly Oubre Jr. overcame a slow start to his Warriors tenure with a career-high 40 points on Thursday, knocking down seven 3-pointers as he simply couldn’t be stopped by the porous Mavericks defense.

Oubre scored more points than he did combined through his first four games with the Warriors (31).

And as ESPN’s Nick Friedell shared on Twitter following the game, Oubre made just 24 3-pointers over his first 21 games with the Warriors. Thursday night, he made seven.

Perhaps this can be the turning point for Oubre’s production on the offensive end, as his defensive intensity certainly wasn’t lacking, as he blocked 7-foot-4 Boban Marjanović on a layup attempt late in the victory.

The Warriors put up 147 points in the winning effort, the most points coach Steve Kerr’s team has put up since Jan. 2019, when Steph Curry and Kevin Durant combined for 71 points in a win over the New Orleans Pelicans.

The Warriors spread the scoring out over four quarters to perfection, becoming the first NBA team to hang 35-plus points in each quarter since 1991, per ESPN Stats and Info. Just four other teams had done so before per Friedell.

The last time the Warriors surpassed that mark was the magical night Klay Thompson set the NBA’s single-game 3-pointers made record with 14 in a 149-124 win over the Chicago Bulls.

Speaking of Thompson and Curry, Oubre joined their elite company with his incredible offensive performance on Thursday.

Oubre is the first player in franchise history to score at least 40 points on seven or more 3-pointers in a Warriors win, outside of the Splash Brothers of course, per StatMuse.

The 25-year-old also became the fifth Warrior during Kerr’s tenure to put up 40 in a game, joining Curry, Thompson, Durant and D’Angelo Russell.

After a slow start, Oubre certainly had his coming out party in Dallas.

Draymond Green also has drawn some criticism of late for his low scoring average this season, as many expect the veteran to be contributing more buckets on a nightly basis.

Forced to start at center against Dallas, Green became the third starting center in NBA history to record at least 15 assists in a game, with Nikola Jokic and Wilt Chamberlain being the other two, per Elias Sports.

Green was one assist shy of his career-high 16, but demonstrated just how well he can run the Warriors’ offense alongside Curry, and silenced his doubters in the process.

The Mavericks made some history of their own in Thursday’s loss, becoming the first NBA team in the shot clock era to lose by 30 points after putting up 75 or more in the first half. Dallas led 76-74 after the first two frames, but ultimately lost 147-116.

Dallas also knocked down 20 3-pointers, which generally is a pretty good recipe for winning in the NBA. No team ever has lost by more than 15 in those circumstances, and the Mavericks lost by 31.

This team was a dark horse Western Conference Finals pick for many pundits before the season began, but Doncic hasn’t been able to make his teammates better to bring winning ways back to Dallas, as the Mavericks stand 9-14 overall, good for 14th place in the Western Conference.
