How Wiggins learns from ‘great minds' of Draymond, Iguodala

Andrew Wiggins was named an NBA All-Star starter for the first time in his career this year, and the Warriors forward gave credit where it was due.

In his third season with the Warriors, the 6-foot-7 wing is averaging 17.9 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.1 assists.

And since coming to San Francisco, he has become a two-way force.

Wiggins explained to NBC Sports Bay Area’s Grant Liffmann who helped shape him into the player he is today.

“Being around great minds like Draymond [Green] defensively, seeing what he does and what he brings to the game on the defensive side,” Wiggins told Liffmann. “And just picking his brain and watching him, watching the little things he does. And Iguodala, watching the little things he does. Those guys are always, if they see you do something wrong or they think you can do something better, they’re going to let you know. They’re going to let you know in their way.

“Draymond might be more intense and Iguodala might be more relaxed when he says it. But the message comes across. And you got to listen. Those are two great minds, great basketball minds. They have so much wisdom, so much that can be passed down to you if you listen and take it the right way.”

In his eighth year in the league, Wiggins is undoubtedly having his best defensive season.

That is the impact the Warriors have on each other.

The veteran leadership and combined with a youth core that is eager to learn is one of the reasons Golden State has found so much success this season.

Young guys like Jordan Poole and Jonathan Kuminga learn from vets like Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond simply by being in their presence.

“That’s what I’ve been doing,” Wiggins said. “I've just been watching those guys and seeing how they carry themselves. And just being around this culture, being around his organization, I feel the positive energy, the vibes, it’s all just contagious.”
