How Rivers coaching 76ers could impact Warriors, potential trades

Doc Rivers was not unemployed for long.

Rivers has come to an agreement with the Philadelphia 76ers to be the franchise's next head coach, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

The LA Clippers and Rivers on Monday mutually agreed to part ways after seven seasons.

The Warriors certainly will be paying attention to how this news impacts the 76ers' decision-making moving forward, as NBA reporter Keith Smith last week tweeted an interesting piece of information.

Did Rivers take the job under the condition that the franchise 100 percent will keep Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons, and not trade one of them this offseason?

“I’m not looking to trade Ben or Joel,” 76ers general manager Elton Brand said in late August. “I’m looking to complement them better. They’re 24 and 26 years old, respectively. You try to make that fit as long as you can.

"They want to be here, they want to be with our organization, and I see them here for a long, long time.”

But should either player become available, it's safe to assume that the Warriors -- who have the No. 2 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft and the Minnesota Timberwolves' 2021 top-three protected first-rounder -- will put together a package in an effort to strike a deal.

The Clippers, meanwhile, will be interviewing candidates soon, sources told Wojnarowski. Ty Lue apparently is a top candidate.
