How Looney reacted to offseason Warriors trade rumors

Along with Andrew Wiggins, no Warrior was involved in more trade rumors than Kevon Looney this past offseason. As he begins his sixth season in the NBA, Looney says he isn't affected by outside noise anymore.

"I'm just happy to be with the Warriors," Looney said to Grant Liffmann on the Dubs Talk podcast, which will be released on Friday. "I don't really read into it. I was taught earlier on in this league to control what you can control, and enjoy the moment and team that you're with every day.

"I just go into every season the same -- to control what I can and enjoy the moments with Draymond [Green], with Steph [Curry], Wiggins, all the new guys coming in."

The thought was if Golden State was going to package Wiggins to acquire another star player, Looney would have to be included in the deal. That obviously never happened, though.

Looney, 24, is entering a crucial time in his NBA career. The Warriors expected him to make a leap last season, but injuries held him to just 20 games. He averaged just 3.4 points and 3.3 rebounds per game in his injury-shortened season, too.

But coach Steve Kerr and the Warriors always have maintained they believe Looney is an integral part of their success. He still is very young and is signed through the 2021-22 season. The former first-round draft pick worked on his outside shot this offseason, and scored four points over 11 minutes off the bench in the Warriors' season-opening loss to the Brooklyn Nets.

For now, Looney is focused on the present and what he can do to help the Warriors win as many games as possible. Any hypotheticals aren't worth his time.

"Trades happen in the NBA," Looney said. "I've had a lot of teammates in my six years, so I know kind of how it works. You can see your name brought up, but just keep working and I know Steve likes me, I know the organization likes me. If they're gonna make a trade, it's gonna be something they probably need to do.

"I don't really take it personal."
