How NBA's coronavirus memo to teams will impact Warriors, Kings fans

Coronavirus is here, and you better get used to it.

The NBA conveyed as much to its players in a recent memo sent to all 30 teams, in which the league offered several recommendations as to how to limit the spread of the virus. The recommendations inevitably will have an impact on fans, as well.

In the memo, first reported by ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski and Zach Lowe, the NBA recommended that players use fist-bumps in place of high-fives in exchanges with fans and refrain from taking pens, balls, jerseys, etc. to autograph. Some players, like Portland Trail Blazers guard CJ McCollum, are heeding the message and taking it very seriously.

Others, like Boston Celtics guard Kemba Walker, are finding a compromise, choosing to provide their own markers for autographs. Regardless, you can be sure your experience at your next NBA game will be different from what you're used to. And, with the Warriors and Kings each having eight more home games in March, Northern California basketball fans will have plenty of upcoming opportunities to see just how different.

Many of the tips the league provided fall into the common sense category, and are applicable to fans as well: Avoiding contact with the sick, staying home when feeling ill, cleaning/disinfecting common surfaces and staying up-to-date on all routine vaccinations. Obviously, if you're exhibiting symptoms, you should be staying away from the crowds at Chase Center and Golden 1 Center.

While the league remains concerned about the viability of its upcoming pre-draft combines, on-site workouts and international scouting events, there has been no change to the game schedule or team travel as of yet. However, as the NBA learns more about the coronavirus and how it proliferates, one would imagine that even bigger changes are coming and that nothing has been ruled out.
