How Klay channels Bruce Lee's iconic ‘be like water' mantra

If you combine Klay Thompson and Bruce Lee, magic forms. Seriously.

Don’t believe us? Ask the Oklahoma City Thunder. They were the victims of Thompson’s latest magic show in the Warriors’ 141-114 blowout win over OKC on Monday.

But for people like Thompson and Lee, their magic comes in a liquid form: water.

And on Bruce Lee night at Chase Center, the world should have known what was in store for the four-time champ. Thompson finished the night with a dozen triples and 42 points on 15-of-22 shooting in the big win.

“That’s also a great book, written by Ms. Shannon Lee,” Thompson told reporters postgame of the book "Be Water, My Friend: The Teachings of Bruce Lee". “That book helped me so much during the time when I wasn’t playing basketball. Even outside of basketball, I try to apply her and her father’s teachings to my life. That book is incredible.

“As far as on the court, to be like water is just to flow. Be effortless. Be quick, but not in a hurry. And always have ultimate belief in yourself. That’s what it means to me to 'be like water.' I thought I resembled that tonight.”

Thompson loves the water, and it’s no surprise that he sometimes tries to model his game off of it. They don't call him a Splash Brother for nothing.

And with a performance like the one on Monday night, no one really should question it.

This wouldn't be the first time that Lee had an impact on Thompson. The five-time All-Star honored the martial arts icon with his signature ANTA KT6 shoe in 2020, complete with a theme dedicated to Lee. The shoes had Thompson's No. 11 and one of Lee’s famous quotes inscribed on them: “Water can flow or crash. Be water my friends.”

The sneakers also read “Nature Flow,” written on the front flap.

During his lengthy recovery process, a video showed him pulling off some martial art moves that emulated Lee with a splash of Thompson's goofy behavior, of course.
