Hypothetical Lillard trade to Warriors ‘plausible' to Hollinger

In today's day and age, nothing really should surprise us when it comes to NBA trades.

Players -- superstars specifically -- switch teams more than ever.

But having said that, it would be downright stunning if the Portland Trail Blazers trade Damian Lillard this summer.

And it would be even more shocking if it's the Warriors who acquire Dame.

The Athletic's John Hollinger and David Aldridge on Wednesday went over some hypothetical blockbuster deals involving the six-time All-NBA selection. And yes -- Golden State was one of the destinations.

"Golden State has enough interesting pieces to actually make this plausible," Hollinger writes. "They have a matching contract in Andrew Wiggins, plus the kind of juicy young assets -- last year’s No. 2 pick James Wiseman, this year’s No. 7 pick and No. 14 pick and at least two of their own future firsts that can be part of any deal -- that are tough for any of the [other hypothetical] teams to contend with.

"Imagine this dream scenario for Golden State: Lillard and [Jusuf] Nurkić to the Warriors for Wiggins, Wiseman, Jordan Poole, Eric Paschall, picks 7 and 14 in 2021 and the Warriors’ first-round picks in 2022 and 2026."

Holy moly.

The luxury tax bills for the foreseeable future would be astronomical, and CEO Joe Lacob recently indicated the Warriors simply cannot keep adding massive contracts.

But would he change his tune if a Dame trade actually was on the table?

Would Lacob and the rest of the ownership group sign off on a deal that resulted in a core of Steph Curry, Lillard, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green? That is quite tantalizing.

But again, Warriors fans absolutely should not expect the Oakland native to be rocking a Dubs uniform next season.

It just doesn't seem plausible.
