Instant Replay: Warriors take flight, out-slug Rockets

OAKLAND – With a pulsating 123-110 victory over the Houston Rockets on Tuesday night, the Warriors became the first team in NBA history to reach 47 wins before getting its fifth loss.

With Stephen Curry leading the offense and Andrew Bogut laying down the defense, the Warriors (47-4) overcame sluggish second and third quarters to win their 10th consecutive game.

Curry scored a team-high 35 points and five other Warriors scored in double figures: Harrison Barnes totaled 19, Marreese Speights had 15, Klay Thompson and Bogut 13 apiece, and Andre Iguodala added 12.

The Warriors seemingly had the game in hand early, going up 16 (54-38) with 6:49 left in the first half. But the Rockets tightened up their defense and went on a 36-15 run spanning the second and third quarters, taking a 74-69 lead with 10:42 left in the third quarter.

The Warriors extended their overall home win streak to 42 games and have won seven consecutive regular-season games against Houston, sweeping the series in back-to-back seasons for the first time ever.

James Harden scored a game-high 37 points – all in the final three quarters – to lead the Rockets (27-27), who have lost five of their last seven games.

STANDOUT PERFORMER

Curry and Bogut share the honors on this night.

Curry’s line: 35 points (12-of-24 shooting, 7-of-16 from deep), nine assists and five rebounds. He finished plus-3 for the game.

Through 51 games, Curry has 240 3-pointers. Only four other players have made more over an entire season.

Bogut’s line: 13 points, 11 rebounds, six blocked shots and three steals. A huge paint presence in the pivotal fourth quarter, he was plus-13.

TURNING POINT

With the score tied 93-93 after three quarters, the Warriors opened the fourth with a 15-3 run to go up 108-96 with 7:58 remaining.

With Bogut protecting the rim (three blocks in the first four minutes) and Barnes scoring eight points during that stretch, the Warriors rebuilt the lead they’d lost.

Houston got no closer than eight the rest of the game.

INJURY UPDATE

Warriors: F James Michael McAdoo (L foot toe sprain) was listed as doubtful and ruled out prior to tipoff. C Festus Ezeli (L knee surgery) was listed as out.

Rockets: F Terrence Jones (concussion) was listed as doubtful. F Sam Dekker (low back pain) was listed as out.
