Wiseman injury could prompt Warriors to add frontcourt depth

With rookie center James Wiseman set to miss an extended period of time after sustaining a torn meniscus, the Warriors will try to bolster their frontcourt depth.

Kevon Looney is Golden State's only healthy center in Wiseman's absence, while Draymond Green and Juan Toscano-Anderson can play the position in smaller lineups. Alen Smailagic, a 2020 second-round pick, is more of a power forward and isn't ready for NBA minutes at either position.

"We're obviously very thin in the frontcourt," Warriors coach Steve Kerr told reporters in a video conference prior to Monday's home game against the Denver Nuggets. "That's something that we will be looking at as we go forward, and once what we get word on what James' prognosis is."

Kerr said the Warriors were still pursuing prognoses on Wiseman's injured knee, not confirming he had sustained a partially or fully torn meniscus. Two league sources confirmed to NBC Sports Bay Area's Monte Poole on Sunday that Wiseman had sustained a torn meniscus.

The Warriors won't have many options to replace Wiseman if he misses the remainder of the season.

Kaleb Wesson, who played for Santa Cruz in the G League bubble, recently left his professional team in Belgium and will miss the remainder of the season after aggravating a knee injury. Experienced veterans like Tyson Chandler, Thon Maker and Tyler Zeller are unrestricted free agents.
