Wiseman still hopeful for 'dream' workout with idol KG

This summer will be a massive one in the NBA development for James Wiseman.

Once the Warriors young center's meniscus injury is fully healed, it'll be imperative that he attacks the offseason with ferocity in order to enter the 2021-22 campaign with more confidence and refined skill.

Prior to Wiseman's knee injury in March, Warriors president of basketball operations Bob Myers had set up a workout for Wiseman with Kevin Garnett. The 20-year-old big man is hopeful that still can happen, knowing that Garnett, who was one of his idols growing up, can give him some important lessons.

“We should,” Wiseman told NBC Sports Bay Area's Monte Poole about still working out with Garnett this summer. “I’m getting better rapidly, at a high rate. I’m getting better each day because I’m taking care of myself. It should still happen. For sure.

“I would be super excited. KG is one of my favorite players. KG, his intensity is crazy. I most definitely would love to work out with KG. That’s one of my dreams.”

Myers knows Wiseman's desire to work out with The Big Ticket, but he also knows Wiseman needs to be 100 percent before entering the gym for an intense workout with Garnett.

"We had KG set up prior to the injury. He was coming. We were just gonna figure out when," Golden State president of basketball operations Bob Myers told 95.7 The Game's "The Morning Roast" show in May. "The thing now is you don't want to throw a guy (out there) that's not 100 percent healthy with KG -- or else you're in trouble (laughs). We got to wait until he's healthy."

Wiseman had a favorable view of his rookie season, but he knows improvement is needed. And Myers is aware of how a Garnett workout would benefit the No. 2 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft.

"As soon as he can, we'd love to have him with a guy like that for many reasons," Myers said. "KG is pretty unique -- on the court and what he brings and the mentality. Exposing James to a guy like that [would be great].

Wiseman underwent surgery on April 15. The Warriors will have an update on his status in September.
