Wiseman takes step forward, but misses Warriors practice again

Shortly before Steve Kerr spoke to the media Thursday afternoon, the Warriors tweeted a picture of James Wiseman.

So naturally, Golden State's head coach was asked if the No. 2 overall pick in last month's NBA draft participated in practice for the first time.

"No, he still is not out there," Kerr said. "He watched practice from the side."

Is he able to do some individual work on the court?

"Yeah. He did some of that before practice started -- very limited and light," Kerr answered. "So this is just the early stages of him being able to get back out on the court.

"We're just following the protocols. He got a few shots up, but that's about it."

The 7-foot-1 center will not play in Golden State's preseason opener Saturday night against the Denver Nuggets, and you should not expect to see him take the floor for either of the Warriors' preseason matchups next week vs. the Sacramento Kings.

"It's unfortunate because these are very important practices this week," Kerr said. "The only thing we've been able to do is have him sit and watch practice, and then watch film with the team and individually.

"As soon as he's on the court, we'll do as much as we can to get him up to speed."
