Celtics' Brown: Draymond ‘tried to pull my pants down' in scuffle

Draymond Green came out aggressively for the Warriors in Game 2 of the NBA Finals, and he was involved in a couple of chippy plays in the first half of Golden State’s 107-88 win against the Boston Celtics.

The first was an incident in the first quarter when he got tangled up with Grant Williams, resulting in a technical foul. Then, late in the second quarter, Green contested a 3-pointer by Jaylen Brown and fouled him. They both fell to the ground, and Green’s legs ended up on top of Brown’s head.

Brown then swung his arms at Green’s legs, to which Green took exception with a little shove. They both then exchanged words as teammates held them back. The referees didn’t hand out any technicals from the incident, which was meaningful because Green already had a technical from the Williams incident. A second technical would've ejected Green from the game.

To hear Brown’s version of the events, Green was up to his usual tricks – and perhaps something a little extra.

“I don’t know what I was supposed to do there,” Brown said to reporters. “Somebody got their legs on top of your head. And then he tried to pull my pants down. I don’t know what that was about. But that’s what Draymond Green does. He’ll do whatever it takes to win.”

Green had nine points on 2-of-3 shooting to go along with five rebounds and seven assists, a much more Draymond-esque game than his Game 1 performance.

Clearly, he also got under a few Celtics’ skin. Brown said that he was just “trying to play basketball” and felt like Green made an illegal play.

“He’ll pull you. He’ll grab you. Muck the game up,” Brown said. “Because that’s what he does for their team. It’s nothing to be surprised about. He raised his physicality to try to stop us and we got to raise ours. Looking forward to the challenge.”

Brown started off hot, but finished with just 17 points while Green’s Warriors rolled to a Game 2 blowout win.

Green’s tactics, whether Brown liked them or not, were effective on Sunday.
