The Warriors won't be facing one of the NBA's top young wings on Saturday night, as Jaylen Brown won't suit up for the Celtics in the primetime clash, Boston head coach Brad Stevens announced before the game.
Brown was listed as questionable earlier Saturday with a non-COVID-19 illness.
The former Cal Bear was coming off one of the best games of his NBA career, as he scored 40 points on an impressive 17-for-20 shooting from the field with nine rebounds in a win over the Los Angeles Lakers.
Kelly Oubre Jr., who likely would have seen extensive time defending Brown in Saturday night's game, also was listed as questionable coming in as he deals with a nagging wrist injury. Oubre re-injured the wrist on a hard fall against the Washington Wizards on April 9.
Warriors coach Steve Kerr said before Saturday's game that Oubre won't start, but could see action against the Celtics. Kent Bazemore will start in his place.
The Warriors and Celtics each will be eager to come away with a win, as both teams are in the playoff picture but squarely in the middle of logjams in the Western and Eastern Conference respectively.
