Clutch Poole leads Santa Cruz Warriors to third straight win

As the Warriors fell in the final seconds Saturday night to the Charlotte Hornets, Jordan Poole's clutch gene gave the Santa Cruz Warriors a 109-104 overtime win over the Salt Lake Stars in the G League's Orlando bubble.

Poole nailed a layup with just 5.1 seconds remaining in regulation to tie it up at 96 points apiece. The Warriors then outscored the Stars 13-8 in overtime to hold on for the victory.

His 19 points led Santa Cruz to its third straight win.

Poole missed four of his 3-point attempts and shot just 5-for-13 from the field but nailed the shot that mattered most. He also added five assists and three rebounds and made all seven of his free throws.

Alen Smailagic scored just six points, while fellow big man Axel Toupane dropped 17. Jeremy Lin and Nico Mannion missed the win to injuries.

Poole is taking full advantage of his time in the G League right now. Over seven games, he's averaging 24.4 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game. He also is shooting 44.5 percent from field, 35 percent from 3-point range and 96.6 percent on free throws.

The Warriors have to be happy with what they have seen from Poole's time with Santa Cruz as they still have high hopes for the former first-round draft pick.
