KD, Draymond confused by perceived private Warriors drama

David West made some surprising comments after the Warriors' championship run in 2017-18, telling ESPN's Marc Spears "y'all got no clue" about what went on behind the scenes with the team. Coach Steve Kerr added fuel to the fire with mysterious comments about his third championship as a head coach, calling the title run the "hardest year of my short coaching career" (h/t Chris Chavez/Sports Illustrated).

Two other members of that 2018 Warriors championship squad, Draymond Green and Kevin Durant, were on a podcast together Thursday and spoke about being confused as to what West and Kerr cryptically were referring to.

"My mom even asked me then 'all of what going on?' and I was just like 'Ma, honestly, I don't know,'" Green told Durant on "The ETCs with Kevin Durant" podcast. "She was like 'I ain't know nothing was going on between y'all' and I'm like 'Honestly, I don't know what all of that stuff that everybody don't know was going on.'

"So I said all of that to say, I still don't know all the stuff that was going on."

Durant was laughing and said he and Draymond were on the same page in regards to the perceived tension.

"Thank you for confirming, because I've been telling people this, they like 'yo what happened?' " Durant responded. "I was like 'I really don't know what went on' because it was like groundhog day, it was like amazing, nobody got into nothing, everybody just did their thing every day until we finished. It was like what the f--k, what happened?"

Green and Durant aren't the only members of that Warriors group that were puzzled by the reported internal strife.

Warriors assistant coach Ron Adams and center Kevon Looney both also said the summer following that championship they weren't sure what drama was being referred to.

"I mean, there's always some drama here and there but I don't think it was nothing more than any other NBA locker room," Looney said on 95.7 The Game on Tuesday. "D-West always likes to mess with the media (laughter).

"It never leaves the locker room -- we keep it that way -- that's why our team is so tight."

"Well, first of all, I’m a little mystified by that comment," Adams previously said on 95.7 The Game. "Actually, when I read it, I asked [assistant coach] Mike Brown, I said, ‘Mike, did I miss something this year?' "

Brown joined Howard Beck on the "Full 48" podcast and said West told Kerr that the power forward was playing around.

"There's no deep, dark secret," the Warriors assistant coach said. "We had our ups and downs throughout the course of the year, just like any other team. We were able to get through them.

"Steve (Kerr) asked David or talked to David about it, and David was like, 'I was joking (laughter). I just wanted to stir the pot a little bit.' And he sure enough did. There's nothing to it."

The Athletic's Sam Amick reported in December of 2018 that the Warriors dealt with a team-wide meningitis scare during that '17-18 season that sources close to the situation say were "at the root of West's infamous comments."

All that is to say, West's comments weren't an indication of any major incidents between players or coaches during that championship season.

Nothing more to see here.
