KD says he still talks with Klay a ‘couple times a week'

The fate of the Warriors' franchise has been altered by a couple of torn Achilles tendons in consecutive years.

First came Kevin Durant’s injury in the 2019 NBA Finals, when the Warriors were eventually ousted in six games by the Toronto Raptors. Then came Klay Thompson’s Achilles tear just before the start of the 2020-21 season.

The two superstars and former Warriors teammates got to share a quick moment with each other after Durant’s Nets walloped the Dubs 134-117. The chat was quick since Durant had so many people to greet after the game, but the two should be texting again soon.

“Me and Klay talk pretty often, couple times a week,” Durant said in a postgame video conference with reporters. “It’s good to see him starting to walk, getting in the boot. Obviously, I know what that process is like so I know what he’s chomping at the bit to get out on the court and start shooting, start form shooting and stuff. Can’t wait to see him back out there.”

Thompson appeared to be upset on the bench Saturday, watching helplessly as Durant and the NBA’s new super team ran the Warriors out of the gym.

The Splash Brother is working back to return in time for the 2021-22 season and could look to Durant as a positive example in recovery. Durant can still score with the best of them and dropped 20 points while adding six assists and five rebounds on Saturday. For the season, Durant is averaging 29.5 points, 7.4 rebounds and 5.2 assists per game.

It’s cool to see two shooters still have a friendship and even cooler to see KD supporting Klay as he goes through the grueling grind of rehab.
