What gift can Steph give him? Looney provides awesome answer

Share

Steph Curry averaged 32.0 points per game this season, leading the league in scoring for the second time in his career.

"Sometimes, players who win individual awards get an expensive gift for their teammates as a thank you," The Athletic's Marcus Thompson writes. "A scoring title isn’t an official award. It hasn’t been anointed by a trophy or with the name of an NBA legend. But it’s big enough to warrant such a gesture."

Kevon Looney helped the two-time NBA MVP accomplish this feat by leading the Warriors in "screen assists."

So is Steph going to spend some money on the No. 30 overall pick from the 2015 draft?

Looney provided an awesome response to Thompson, laughing before getting to the punch line.

“If Steph wants to give me something, he can get me a new contract," Looney said. "I’ll take one of those.”

Well played, Kevon. Well played.

But this is a good time to remind everybody about Looney's contract situation.

The 25-year-old in July 2019 signed a three-year contract worth just under $14.5 million. He holds a $5.2 million player option for next season, which means he could become an unrestricted free agent this summer.

Perhaps he declines the option and secures a new multi-year deal with the Warriors.

Steve Kerr absolutely loves Looney, and it's safe to assume the big man is rocking a Golden State uniform in 2021-22 and beyond.

But his contract situation will be something to monitor a couple months from now.
