From Thompson’s rookie year through the 2018-19 season, he earned just under $79 million in salary. In 2019, Thompson agreed to sign a five-year, $190 million contract with the Warriors. 

A look at Klay Thompson’s injury history

Thompson has missed the previous two seasons due to both ACL and Achilles injuries.

He suffered an ACL injury in Game 6 of the 2019 NBA Finals, and his Achilles injury prior to the start of the 2020-21 season.

One medical expert, in speaking to USA Today, believes that the order in which Thompson's injuries occurred gives him a better chance at recovery than it would be the other way around.

Klay Thompson’s shoe deal with Anta

Thompson first signed with Anta in 2015, then in 2017, he signed a new contract with the Chinese company that could pay him up to $80 million over 10 years. Anta designed the first signature shoes for Thompson, the KT FIRE basketball shoes, and have released several new models since. 

The KT2s featured a number of unique colorways, the KT6 models were accompanied by a limited edition figurine of Thompson, and the KT Light were the Warriors guard's first training shoe.

NBA records held by Klay Thompson

Thompson holds several notable NBA records. In January of 2015, he scored 37 points in a quarter to surpass the previous record for points shared by George Gervin and Carmelo Anthony. Thompson’s nine three-pointers in the quarter also broke the previous record of eight, held by both Joe Johnson and Michael Redd.

Thompson put forth a record-breaking performance in Game 6 of the 2016 Western Conference finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder. He made an NBA playoff-record 11 3-pointers, scoring 41 points to help the Warriors even the series at three games apiece.

He scored career-high 60 points against the Pacers on Dec. 5, 2016. Thompson racked up 60 points despite just 29 minutes and three seconds on the court, and spending the entire fourth quarter on the bench.

In 2018 against the Chicago Bulls, he drained 14 3-pointers, surpassing the NBA single-game record held by Warriors teammate Stephen Curry since Nov. 7, 2016.

A glimpse into Klay Thompson’s personal life

Thompson was born in Los Angeles, California, to Julie and Mychal Thompson. His mother was a volleyball player at the University of San Francisco. His father was the first overall pick in the 1978 NBA Draft and played 12 seasons in the NBA, winning two championships with the Lakers. Thompson has two brothers, Mychel and Trayce.

Thompson’s bulldog, Rocco, is a fixture in his life. Rocco is a companion when Thompson is working out, is always up for a game of chess, and has even been the inspiration for Thompson’s Anta shoes.

When Thompson is not on the court, he can likely be found on his boat cruising around the San Francisco Bay. Thompson spent Valentine's Day on his boat under the Golden Gate Bridge, has driven the boat to Warriors games, and has even taken teammates like James Wiseman aboard to bond.
