OAKLAND -- After observing him play the past two games despite illness, the Warriors have decided to rest Klay Thompson for the game against Miami on Tuesday night at Oracle Arena.

The team made the announcement after its Tuesday morning shootaround.

Thompson was listed on the injury report as questionable prior to the game last Friday against Memphis. He was cleared before tipoff and played 42 minutes, scoring 17 points on 7-of-17 shooting.

After telling CSNBayArea.com on Saturday that he felt “good,” Thompson was not listed on the injury report for the game Sunday at Sacramento. He played 36 minutes and scored 18 points on 8-of-19 shooting.

Thompson is the team’s third-leading scorer, averaging 21.3 points per game.

Warriors coach Steve Kerr was prepared to start rookie Pat McCaw last Friday against the Grizzlies, so he likely will get the start against the Heat.
