Klay pokes fun at Steph, JP for missed free throws in Game 3

Free-throw shooting was a big topic after the Warriors' Game 2 win over the Denver Nuggets on Monday as Steph Curry's two missed technicals led to a fun back-and-forth with Jordan Poole about who would take them going forward.

Golden State's work at the charity stripe took a back seat Thursday as the Warriors ground out a 118-113 win in Denver to take a three-games-to-zero series lead. But with another win in their pocket, Klay Thompson took a second during his postgame interview to poke fun at Curry and Poole, the two best free-throw shooters in the NBA, for missing a combined five freebies on Thursday.

"He missed two free throws, and JP missed three," Thompson said after the game when asked if it felt like Steph was Steph again in his third game back. "That was weird. But other than that, my goodness, he makes the really difficult look really easy."

The Warriors entered Game 3 knowing the Nuggets would throw everything at them after dropping the first two games of the series. Denver got a tremendous performance from Nikola Jokic and held a two-point lead with under three minutes to play.

But Thompson, Curry, Poole, Andrew Wiggins, and Draymond Green each made clutch plays down the stretch, making sure the Nuggets couldn't inch their way back into the series.

"That's what it's all about, man," Green said when asked about getting a road win in the playoffs. "You go into an opposing team's building, and you can shut that crowd up. It doesn't get much better than that. There is no better feeling in sports than going into a hostile environment, their crowd's into it, yelling, screaming, and ultimately, you come out with a win.

"There's no better feeling. It's hard to duplicate that feeling, that rush. For me, I enjoy these type of environments. I enjoy the boos. I enjoy everything that comes with it. I always say, 'The real ones show up on the road. They make plays on the road.' Then some people just show up at home."

After following up back-to-back dominating performances at home with a gritty road win, the Warriors are all smiles as they look to close out the Nuggets on Sunday.

As for the free throws, it's unlikely Curry and Poole will have a subpar showing at the line again any time soon. But if they do, Thompson won't let them forget it.
