Simmons, Russillo discuss idea of LeBron recruiting Steph

Last week on his Hoop Collective podcast, ESPN's Brian Windhorst said he thought it was hilarious how LeBron James recruited Steph Curry during last month's NBA All-Star Game "in the event [Curry] wouldn't [sign a contract extension with the Warriors], and that somehow he would become a free agent."

That topic naturally was a point of discussion on the most recent episode of The Bill Simmons Podcast.

Simmons: "There was this weird 'LeBron is recruiting Curry' story that just seemed like sheer boredom from the media. I don't know where it was coming from. I don't know why anybody who has followed Curry's career at any point would think he would ever leave Golden State [or] he would want to jump on the LeBron bandwagon and be LeBron's sidekick.

"The whole thing was bizarre to me. I don't think it's been the tightest relationship over the years. I'm sure they get along better [now]. I thought that was one of the weirder fake stories that we've had. If he ever was gonna go anywhere, the only place that makes sense is Charlotte -- to go home where his dad is and the place he grew up as a kid.

Russillo: "Well Windhorst brought it up, and I believe the part of LeBron thinking he's recruiting Steph. It was odd. It's like wait a minute -- you like Steph [now]? LeBron is so powerful. He is always thinking of these angles. So I thought it was weird when I'd see some of the interactions during All-Star Weekend. You're like, 'Motherf--ker you had a corpse [of Curry] at your Halloween party that you walked over on the way in.' "

Simmons: "Yeah. Ridiculous."

Curry -- who didn't put pen to paper before this season began -- once again is eligible for a contract extension this summer. And it sure sounds like the two-time NBA MVP and the Warriors will come to terms on an agreement.

Curry repeatedly has said he wants to spend his entire career with Golden State, and the expectation is that will happen. But you never know what will happen in today's NBA.

Having said that, it would be quite shocking if Curry leaves the Warriors in the near future. And it seems downright unimaginable for him to join forces with LeBron.
