OAKLAND -- The basketball courts at Mosswood Park are legendary, a playground where some of the best players in the game came to play pickup basketball.Bill Russell, Paul Silas Jason Kidd, Gary Payton, Brian Shaw, Antonio Davis and many, many others used the East Bay courts at Mosswood as a proving ground. Not so much lately -- in large part because the courts have been in disrepair. Not anymore. They've been re-done, and now have glass backboards, nylon nets and a flat playing surface.
Mosswood Park is where Oakland hoops legend Demetrius "Hook" Mitchell once dunked over a car -- long before Blake Griffin did it the 2011 NBA Dunk Contest. On Wednesday, Kaiser Permanente, the Warriors and the Good Tidings Foundation unveiled two refurbished courts at Mosswood Park -- and wouldn't you know it, Mitchell showed up.It wasn't long before kids were running around and taking shots -- nevermind some clouds, a little bit of wetness and slick courts.
