Klay Thompson wearing a No. 77 jersey was the talk around the Warriors on Saturday, and a day later, the creator of the joke remains a bit of a mystery.
When Warriors coach Steve Kerr met with the media Saturday, he guessed it was Steph Curry's idea. On Sunday, Kerr changed his tune.
Asked about the Warriors stars having a sense of humor regarding Thompson being left off the NBA's 75th Anniversary team, Kerr had new info on the brains behind the operation.

"We've got a great group with our team," Kerr told reporters before the Warriors were set to take on the Kings at Golden 1 Center in Sacramento. "Those guys have known each other for so long. They share a lot of laughs. I think that was Klay poking fun at himself. From what I gather, he had the jersey made or maybe it was [director of team operations] Eric Housen. I think they did it together.
"But yeah, humor is a huge part of this thing. It's a marathon trying to get through the season, all the games, all the travel. You have to have people around you who you really like to help get you through it. We've got a group this year, I think, depends on one another, relies on one another, and those four in particular have been together for a long time, so a lot of familiarity."
NBC Sports Bay Area's Kerith Burke reported on Warriors Pregame Live on Sunday, citing souces, that Housen was not responsible for the jersey.
"You remember, Klay was mad," Burke told Bonta Hill, Chris Mullin and Dorell Wright. "Big mad that he didn't make this top-75 list, so what a beautiful way for his teammates to show 'Klay, you're No. 77 in our book.' And there's a little bit of a mystery here. I had to get to the bottom of who actually created this No. 77 jersey. My sources say it was not Eric Housen, the director of team operations and the guy in charge of the jerseys. It might be a teammate but nobody has come forward yet and Klay is not in Sacramento to ask.

"So whoever this amazing prankster was, excellent, excellent job operating this mystery, and obviously, Klay was in on the joke too. It's a lot of fun to see him celebrated. And you know what, a sense of humor is something Steve Kerr noticed in the locker room too."
After the NBA released its top 75 (76 players due to a tie) players for the 75th Anniversary of the league last week, Thompson was omitted from the list and he was fuming Thursday, Friday and even Saturday morning while cruising around San Francisco Bay on his boat.
But in Thompson's locker at Chase Center waiting for him was a No. 77 jersey. Draymond Green posted the video of the jersey, with Curry getting a good laugh from the gag. Considering how Thompson had been feeling for 48 hours, it was unclear how he would react to the jersey.

But Green later posted a video of Thompson rocking the No. 77 jersey around the Warriors' training facility.
"77th best player of all time, baby," Thompson said.
Thompson finally was able to have a laugh about the 75th Anniversary team snub, and Kerr wouldn't be upset of the three-time NBA champion uses it as more motivation when he returns after missing the last two seasons.
