Nash: Curry arguably most skilled player in NBA history

Steph Curry is arguably the best basketball player on the planet right now.

He's averaging 33.7 points, 5.9 assists, 4.8 rebounds and 2.4 steals per game, while shooting over 52 percent from the field and over 45 percent from 3-point territory.

Steve Nash, who in late September officially joined the Warriors as a player development consultant, is in awe of what Curry is accomplishing.

"Just gets better and better," he recently said to Tim Kawakami of the Bay Area News Group. "Game gets sharper. And I still think he’s going to understand things more clearly as well. His skill level improves, which is kind of alarming. He’s maybe as skilled a player as we’ve ever had in this game."

Curry averaged 23.8 points and 7.7 assists last season, which was good enough to claim the MVP award.

He broke his own single-season record by making 286 3-pointers. This year? He's on pace to make 424.

Curry isn't perfect, however.

Through the Warriors' first five games, he averaged just 1.6 turnovers. That number has increased to 4.7 over the last seven contests (he owes his mother some money).

"He has improvements to make as far as his feel and comfort, the cat-and-mouse thing, strategy and picking and choosing a spot, conserving energy and getting the same amount done," Nash said. "He can improve a lot, which is scary.

"The skill level is already prodigious and it keeps getting better. And since the experience and understanding will continue to grow, it’s pretty remarkable to think about the heights he can get to."

Curry wasn't just the MVP last season. He also overtook LeBron James as the leading All-Star vote-getter.

He captivated the basketball world by leading the Warriors to their first title since 1975.

His play thus far this season has people mentioning him and Michael Jordan in the same sentence.

"I wouldn’t compare him to Michael Jordan. I wouldn’t compare anybody to Michael," Nash explained. But I would say Steph is turning into a historical category of his own, in a way. He’s in the prime of his career and will be for a few years and the way he’s improving and the level he’s playing at...

"I think he’s unlike anyone else. His ability to make shots and still handle the play-making duties is historic. I think you’d be hard pressed to find a player more skilled than him in the history of the game."
