Draft day finally has arrived, and the Warriors could have a trade partner.
The Ringer's Kevin O'Connor reported Wednesday, citing sources, that the Warriors and Chicago Bulls are discussing a trade that would have Golden State acquire the No. 4 overall pick and Wendell Carter Jr. in exchange for the No. 2 overall pick.

As I've already discussed, this deal would be a huge win for Golden State.
In Carter, they would get a 21-year-old big man who was the No. 7 overall pick just two years ago. Carter would fill a big need for the Warriors, giving them a plus-defender at the 4/5 who also would fit into their offensive system perfectly.
On the defensive end of the floor, Carter uses his quick feet and 7-foot-5 wingspan to force turnovers. He's good at disrupting passing lanes and has the fluid footwork needed to get out on the perimeter and stick with smaller players. Last season, the Bulls had a 105.3 defensive rating with Carter on the floor and grabbed 74.3 percent of all defensive rebounds.
When he was on the bench, the Bulls had a defensive rating of 190.3 and pulled down just 70.2 percent of defensive rebounds. That difference in defensive rating is the same as the gap between the fourth and 15th-best defensive units.
Golden State Warriors
While his overall offensive game is a work in progress, Carter is a good screen-setter who excels in the dribble hand-off game and is a put-back wizard. While his 3-point shot hasn't come around at the NBA level, he did knock down 41.3 percent of his 3-point tries during his one year at Duke and had a stretch last season where he went 4-for-11 and showed a confident stroke.

Adding Carter while only moving down two spots in the draft would allow the Warriors to fill two needs on draft day. Carter would give them the young, defensive big they have been looking for and they then could draft Tyrese Haliburton or Deni Avdija at No. 4 to fill a hole on the wing.
There are sure to be a number of teams looking to move up to No. 2 in the draft, but this might be the Warriors' best trade option.
