Who Warriors fans want team to sign in NBA free agency

NBA free agency roughly is seven hours old and the Warriors haven't made a single move.

That's likely by design, as they are patiently waiting for all the big-money free agents to come off the board before they pounce on the cheaper role players.

After reportedly absorbing Kelly Oubre Jr. into their $17.2 million traded-player exception, the Warriors still have the $5.7 million taxpayer mid-level exception and minimum contracts to offer. At some point, if approved by the NBA, they also could have a $9.3 million disabled player exception as a result of Klay Thompson's season-ending torn Achilles.

But for now, Bob Myers and Co. wait for pieces to come off the board.

With that in mind, we asked Warriors fans who they want to see the team sign during free agency.

The answers varied, but there were some common names among the responses, including Avery Bradley, Serge Ibaka, Jae Crowder and DeMarcus Cousins.

Cousins, who didn't play during the 2019-20 NBA season while recovering from a torn ACL, reportedly is drawing attention from teams, and we wrote about why a reunion with the Warriors makes sense.

There were a few outliers, like Rajon Rondo, Aron Baynes and Thon Maker.

Several fans also suggested P.J. Tucker, who would have to be acquired through a trade. But NBC Sports Bay Area's Brian Witt suggested such a deal last week, though the Warriors now have used the TPE. If Golden State is awarded the disabled player exception, Tucker's one-year, $7.8 million contract would fit.

Of course, the Warriors would have to convince the Rockets to make a deal with them. But future draft picks can be convincing when an owner is trying to shed salary.

The Warriors still have work to do to make sure their roster is in the best possible spot when the season starts Dec. 22, but once the dust settles, Myers might end up with one or two of the players suggested above.
