Report: Warriors target Beal opting to stay with Wizards

If you were hoping the Warriors would trade for Bradley Beal before Thursday night's NBA draft, you won't like this news.

It sounds like the three-time NBA All-Star has decided not to request a trade.

Shortly before Thompson's tweet, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski and The Athletic's Shams Charania reported that the Washington Wizards and Los Angeles Lakers were close to striking a deal that would send Russell Westbrook to LA.

This led to speculation (including from yours truly) that Beal soon would be on the move.

But Woj in short order poured cold water on that possibility.

Beal will earn about $34.5 million next season, and has a $37.3 million player option in 2022-23.

Might the Warriors and Wizards engage in trade talks ahead of next season's deadline? It's possible.

But it sure seems like Beal is committed to staying long-term with the franchise that selected him No. 3 overall in the 2012 draft.
