Report: Collison scrimmages with Steph, Poole at Dubs workout

The Warriors are taking a look at retired veteran guard Darren Collison, and they're getting a good sense of how he'll fit with the competition that's on the court.

The Athletic's Anthony Slater reported Thursday morning that Collison was at the Warriors' facility on Wednesday and will be there again Thursday. Collison scrimmaged with Steph Curry and Jordan Poole, among other players.

NBC Sports Bay Area's Monte Poole confirmed through a league source on Monday that the Warriors are working out Collison this week. Yahoo's Chris Haynes was first to report the news.

Collison, 34, hasn't played since the 2018-19 season. That season, he averaged 11.2 points for the Indiana Pacers and shot 40.7 percent from long distance. The season before, he led the league in 3-point shooting percentage at 46.8 percent.

Golden State still has its 15th roster spot open, and Collison's two days at the Warriors' facility should go a long way. The Warriors can see just how serious he is about a comeback, and how much of a fit he really is. If Collison truly does want to play again, he could be a great fit.

The Warriors badly need backup point guard help, and a steady veteran like Collison is ideal. He knows how to run an offense and is a scoring threat as a 3-point option.

There's no guarantee the Warriors sign Collison or even use the 15th roster spot. However, they're getting a great look at someone who could make a real impact on a championship contender.
