NBA rumors: Kyrie Irving flew to Bay Area to recruit Kevin Durant to Nets

We already knew pending free agent Kyrie Irving was trying to convince current Warriors star Kevin Durant to team up with him next season on the Brooklyn Nets.

Now, we have a little more detail as to how far Irving is going to make it happen.

ESPN's Stephen A. Smith, while talking about how much he wants Durant to sign with the Knicks in free agency, dropped a little nugget about what Irving did.

"Do you know how excited I was to be told there's a 95 percent chance KD and Kyrie are coming to New York?" Smith said Monday on The Michael Kay Show. "Do you know how depressed I was to have to turn around six weeks to two months later to tell you 'Damn it, they changed their minds?' Kyrie went to see the Brooklyn Nets, then he flew out to the Bay to see KD and now KD is contemplating changing his mind. It makes me sick to my damn stomach."

On Friday, Fox Sports' Cris Carter reported that Irving was trying to recruit Durant to the Nets, so that part of Smith's reporting isn't new. It's the fact that Irving apparently flew out to the Bay Area to meet with Durant.

That's a bold move by Irving to recruit Durant during the playoffs. But Irving has had a little time since Boston's season ended on May 8.

Durant can focus on free agency when the Warriors are done playing. For now, the Golden State Warriors star is focused on his return to the court in Game 5 of the NBA Finals against the Toronto Raptors.
