NBA rumors: Warriors assistant GM Mike Dunleavy candidate for Pistons

Mike Dunleavy Jr. might not be a member of the Warriors' front office for much longer.

Golden State's assistant general manager is "on the (Detroit) Pistons' radar as they look to add to their front office," sources told SNY's Ian Begley.

In what capacity exactly? The belief is that he is under consideration for assistant GM.

Dunleavy joined the Warriors as a pro scout before the 2018-19 season, and last August was promoted to his current position.

"He has a great breadth of skill," general manager Bob Myers told Anthony Slater of The Athletic last summer. "He can walk up to Steve Kerr and talk about our offense and have a good platform to speak on it. Because he’s played for some great coaches, was a really smart player, his dad was a coach.

"He does it in a very humble way ... just a brilliant basketball mind. It kind of comes naturally.”

Golden State selected Dunleavy with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2002 NBA Draft. In January 2007, he was traded to the Indiana Pacers in the deal that brought Stephen Jackson and Al Harrington to the Bay Area.

Fun fact -- Dunleavy was assigned to the Santa Cruz Warriors in Feb. 2016 when he played for the Chicago Bulls (via the Flexible Assignment Rule).

He did not suit up for any games with the Sea Dubs.
