Report: Warriors don't expect Beal trade before NBA draft

The Warriors face a big decision Thursday night at the 2021 NBA Draft. They own the rights to the No. 7 and No. 14 overall picks but reportedly want to trade one or both in order to upgrade the roster around Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green.

Recent reports suggest the Warriors have targeted Washington Wizards star Bradley Beal as the player they'd like to acquire. But while Beal reportedly is thinking about requesting a trade from the Wizards, the San Francisco Chronicle's Connor Letourneau reported Wednesday that the Warriors don't anticipate a trade happening before they go on the clock.

"A league source told The Chronicle on Wednesday morning that the Warriors’ decision-makers don’t expect a Beal trade — to them or anyone else — before they must make their two lottery picks," Letourneau writes.

The Warriors acquiring Beal, of course, would cause a seismic shift throughout the NBA and signal that Golden State's dynastic rebirth had been completed.

With Beal still deciding on his future, it's likely the Warriors will make both selections at No. 7 and No. 14. While no one rookie will vault Golden State back into the title picture, the Warriors will target players who can give them something immediately and develop into something greater.

Beal still could decide his time in D.C. is over, but it seems like that decision won't come Thursday.
