Report: Warriors expected to have interest in signing Howard

Could this be the year when the Warriors sign Dwight Howard?

Well, Golden State is expected to have interest in the soon-to-be free-agent big man, sources told The Athletic's Shams Charania.

Howard won his first NBA title this season with the Los Angeles Lakers, and changed the narrative of his career in the process.

The eight-time All-Star accepted a role coming off the bench, averaging 7.5 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.1 blocks over 18.9 minutes per appearance during the regular season.

It's unclear if the Warriors would be willing to dip into the taxpayer mid-level exception for Howard. If they are not, then the most they can offer is the veteran's minimum.

Golden State coach Steve Kerr recently said his team needs to get bigger and more athletic in order to contend for the 2021 NBA championship. Howard checks both boxes.

"Howard accomplished a partial image rehabilitation and has been effective enough to generate leverage from a situation that many initially questioned," NBC Sports Bay Area's Monte Poole wrote last week: "If they like what they see and hear, and Howard passes the pertinent tests, the Warriors can address a need without breaking the bank."

Howard will turn 35 years old in December.
