The Warriors' 2022-23 NBA season ended earlier than they had hoped, and now the questions about organizational mainstays begin.
The most pressing matter the Warriors must figure out is whether president of basketball operations Bob Myers will be back, considering his contract expires at the end of June.
Shortly after the Warriors' season-ending 122-101 Game 6 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday night, The Athletic's Shams Charania and Anthony Slater reported that Myers will take time to make a decision on his future.
"Lacob has stated publicly and privately his hope to retain Myers as the face of the Warriors’ front office and has offered him a new deal," Charania and Slater reported. "Those within the front office – under and around Myers – echo that sentiment, a collective desire to keep the established structure in place. But there’s also an acknowledgment that Myers may walk out the door, even if Lacob does reach the necessary number in contract negotiations."
Charania and Slater also reported that if Myers decides not to return to the Warriors, his replacement would come from within the organization, not an external candidate, with current assistant general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. the likely successor.
Myers' decision and future with the Warriors will have a ripple effect on the rest of the organization and on the roster.
Star forward Draymond Green has a player option for the 2023-24 NBA season, and while he told reporters after Game 6 that he wants to remain with the Warriors for the rest of his career, he told Andscape's Marc J. Spears that Myers' decision could play a role what he does with his option.
Steve Kerr is extremely close with Myers, and when asked about the status of the Warriors' top executive, Golden State's coach made his stance pretty clear.
"Bob and I have been partners for nine years now and he's an integral part of everything that we do and I rely on him for a ton," Kerr told reporters. "So I hope he's back. He's a great friend. He's a hell of a GM. He's responsible for a lot of what has happened here. So hopefully he's back but he has to figure that out."
Myers is just as important as anyone to the Warriors' dynasty, so his departure could be seen as the beginning of the end for the team's championship aspirations.

Once the Warriors figure out Myers' future, the rest of the moves can fall into place. Will Green return? How do Jordan Poole, Jonathan Kuminga and Moses Moody fit? Will Donte DiVincenzo be back? How will they fill out the rest of the roster?
However, none of those questions can be answered until the Warriors know if Myers or someone else is calling the shots.
