Report: Draymond ‘doing work' recruiting with Team USA

Share

Are the Warriors going to make a blockbuster trade before Thursday's NBA draft?

Maybe.

Is it possible something major happens when they are on the clock at No. 7 overall?

Maybe.

But based on a back-and-forth between Brian Windhorst and Marc Spears during the latest episode of The Hoop Collective podcast, it sounds like a huge deal would be surprising.

Windhorst: "The draft is coming up and I don't know if we're gonna get any big trades ahead of it. We had a little Dame [Damian Lillard] stuff, there's been people watching [Bradley] Beal -- but I'm not feeling anything there.

Spears: "No."

Windhorst: "So I'm not sure we're gonna get a star on the market."

Spears: "But I'm gonna be at Golden State headquarters just in case."

Windhorst: "Well. The rumor out of Team USA is that Draymond is doing work [laughter]."

Spears: "[Laughter] GM Green?"

Windhorst: "[Laughter] That's all I'm gonna say. The team building going on -- the team building is that Draymond is doing work."

This really should not come as a surprise to anybody.

In fact, Beal earlier this month said that he expected the players would talk "a lot" about teaming up while with Team USA.

But the potential Warriors target ultimately was ruled out of the Olympics because of COVID-19 health and safety protocols, and left Team USA in mid-July.

Perhaps Draymond is recruiting Beal while he is out in Tokyo, but it's safe to assume the three-time NBA champion also is having conversations with Lillard (and maybe Zach LaVine?)

In the end, it seems way more likely that Beal -- and not Lillard -- would be the one rocking a Dubs uniform in 2021-22.

"Multiple sources said the Warriors don’t suspect Lillard would want to come to the Bay," The Athletic's Marcus Thompson wrote last week.

But who knows. Anything can happen in the NBA.
