Nick Collison explains why Thunder should retire Kevin Durant's jersey

Kevin Durant is in Oklahoma City on Wednesday night.

Why?

Because the Thunder are retiring Nick Collison's No. 4 jersey and KD is there to support his former teammate.

Should Durant's No. 35 be the second jersey to hang in the rafters at Chesapeake Energy Arena?

"It's their decision to make, but I would certainly think so," Collison told ESPN's Royce Young. "He's meant a ton to Thunder basketball and spent a huge majority of his career here. A lot of these honors are just kind of what the team decides to do, and I think players are appreciative of them.

"I don't get too worked up about it. I'll let other people debate that, but to me, he's a big part of what we did here."

Is Collison worried that Durant's presence might overshadow the ceremony?

"I don't mind that. I understand people are interested in him coming back, but this thing is really cool for me and my family," Collison told ESPN. "It's gonna be cool for us regardless of what the conversation is or what other people are talking about. It's fine with me.

"He just wanted to be there because I think he appreciates the time we had together too. I think that's cool. I don't see anything wrong with it.

Durant played nine seasons for the franchise -- one in Seattle and eight in Oklahoma City. After he decided to sign with the Warriors in the summer of 2016, the Thunder did not have a player rock No. 35 during the 2016-17 season.

But last year, the team allowed rookie PJ Dozier to have No. 35.

Nobody on OKC is wearing that number this season, and it's fair to wonder if anybody ever will again.
