Casspi reveals when Draymond first yelled at him on Warriors

Omri Casspi wasn't a Warrior for a long time, but it was memorable nonetheless. He played just 53 games for Golden State in 2017-18 before being waived just before the playoffs in order to clear a roster spot for guard Quinn Cook, and the Warriors gave him his championship ring when Casspi, then with the Memphis Grizzlies, visited Oracle Arena the following season.

Casspi has spoken highly of the experience nonetheless, and perhaps part of the reason is why is because one of the Warriors' leaders didn't wait long to make the forward to feel like he truly was part of the team.

Draymond Green yelled at Casspi during one of Golden State's first practices during a preseason trip to China in 2017.

"We got into (the) first practice -- we got off the plane, coach (Steve Kerr) was like, 'We're gonna sweat it out.' " Casspi recalled in an interview with Grant Liffmann on this week's episode of the "Runnin' Plays" podcast. "And we're playing full court, something like that. We're on the same team, I think, and we just lost. We kept [getting scored on]. They came down, and they scored. And Draymond is just going bananas at me, 'Omri! What the hell?' So then I'm like, 'Dray, what?' (Draymond responds,) 'Let's do it! Let's go!' "

Casspi said that he and Green didn't get into it, and that one of the Warriors' coaches came over to explain to Casspi that Green respected his new teammate, trying to motivate Casspi the same way Green would himself. The Warriors didn't scrimmage much 5-on-5 during that season, Casspi said, so it was important to get a taste of his new teammate's intensity early on.

There were no hard feelings at the time, and there certainly aren't any now, just over three years later.

"It was just fun," Casspi told Liffmann. "Dray is a great guy. He's one of the smartest guys I've been around."
