News of the Clippers' pursuit of West was first reported by ESPN on Tuesday night.
West has been with the Warriors since May 2011, but his current contract expires in July.
West's future with the Warriors came up last week. Owner Joe Lacob was asked by The San Jose Mercury News about the possibility of keeping West.
"We want him back. We love him. He’s been a great contributor to the organization, someone I consider a personal friend as well. We would love him back (beyond this season), and we’ve made that known," Lacob told The Mercury News on Friday.

Lacob said that the two sides want to focus on the upcoming NBA Finals rather than discuss a new contract.
While West has no previous ties to the Clippers, he spent 18 seasons in the Lakers front office in two roles, GM and executive vice president of basketball operations. After leaving the Lakers in 2000, West became the president of basketball operations of the Memphis Grizzlies in 2002.
