Report: DeMarcus Cousins wanted to play on upcoming Warriors road trip

Sorry, Warriors fans, but you'll have to wait until after Christmas to unwrap the Boogie-sized present under your tree.

While DeMarcus Cousins is starting to ramp up his workouts and participation in scrimmages, he's now targeting after Christmas for his Warriors debut, Bay Area News Group's Logan Murdock reported Monday, citing sources.

No specific return date has been decided upon, according to the report.

The interesting nugget is that Cousins wanted to get back on the court during this upcoming five-game road trip. After hosting the Orlando Magic on Monday, the Warriors begin the trip in Toronto on Thursday, then make stops in Detroit, Atlanta, Cleveland and Milwaukee.

The decision to push Cousins' return date past Christmas was made by the All-Star center and the Warriors' training staff, which is led by head trainer Rick Celebrini, according to the report.

After the Christmas Day game against LeBron James and the Lakers, the Warriors will face the Trail Blazers on Dec. 27 in Oakland and on Dec. 29 in Portland, then the Suns in Phoenix on Dec. 31. Once the calendar flips to 2019, the Warriors will host the Rockets on Jan. 3 and then travel up I-80 to face the Kings on Jan. 5. That will be the last time the Warriors play in Sacramento during the regular season, so you can imagine Cousins wants to be on the court for that game against the team that drafted him and later traded him.

The Warriors will provide a status update on Cousins on Tuesday, according to Murdock.

The Warriors could desperately use Cousins' production right now as young big men Damian Jones, Kevon Looney and Jordan Bell are struggling to provide consistent, productive minutes. Jones has started in 19 of the Warriors' 21 games this season and is averaging just 3.1 rebounds.
