Report: Kevin Durant sold more signature shoes than Steph Curry in 2017

Steph Curry had the No. 1 selling jersey for the third consecutive season.

But in 2017, he didn't finish in the Top 3 when it comes to pushing signature shoes.

In that department, LeBron James finished No. 1, followed by Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant, according to Kurt Badenhausen of Forbes.

Curry placed fourth, with Michael Jordan rounding out the Top 5.

Badenhausen got the data from market research firm NPD Group.

An excerpt from the Forbes breakdown:

Durant and Curry swapped ranks on shoe sales in 2017, with Durant finishing ahead of his Golden State Warriors teammate, who is signed to  Under Armour.

NPD reports dollar sales for Under Armour performance basketball were off 39% in 2017, with its market share falling to 12.1%, from 17.2%. 'Under Armour had a couple of good shoes, but they really overshot the market and made more than there was demand for,' says NPD Group analyst Matt Powell.

To refresh your memory:

Last August, Durant told Bill Simmons: "Nobody wants to play in Under Armours, I'm sorry. The top kids don't, because they all play Nike."

Curry responded by telling Scott Fowler of The Charlotte Observer:

“This is nothing that is going to put a wrench in the locker room. I told him that he has a certain opinion based on his experience growing up in the Nike business. What that means when it comes to the competition among shoe brands and universities and the whole grassroots system and whatnot – he’s entitled to that opinion obviously.

"But when it comes to what I’m trying to do with Under Armour, and what the Curry brand means and what Under Armour basketball means, that statement does not ring true at all.”

More importantly, Curry is playing tonight against the Pelicans...
