The Rockets are already looking ahead to next season.

Hours after their season came to an end on Wednesday night in Oakland, Houston received permission to interview Warriors assistant coach Luke Walton for their head coaching position, according to The Undefeated's Marc Spears.

The Rockets fired Kevin McHale 11 games into the season and appointed assistant J.B. Bickerstaff as the team's interim head coach.

Prior to Wednesday night's Game 5, Steve Kerr told reporters that the Warriors will give Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak permission to interview Walton.

“We told Mitch he’s perfectly welcome to talk to Luke as soon as this series is over and we have a little break," Kerr said.

Golden State now has a break.

The Warriors are off on Thursday, and will practice on Friday and Saturday.

If the Blazers beat the Clippers on Friday night, Golden State will host Portland on Sunday in Game 1 of the Western Conference Semifinals.

If the Clippers win, the Warriors will open their next series on Tuesday against the winner of Sunday's Game 7 between Los Angeles and Portland.
