Ron Adams listens to Drake: ‘Normal guy who is talented'

Ron Adams is widely considered the top assistant coach in the NBA.

He is a defensive guru who routinely exhibits frustrated body language on the bench when teams score against the Warriors.

At the end of a radio interview on Thursday morning -- after he discussed Golden State's defense, Patrick McCaw's composure and more substantive topics related to basketball -- Adams was asked for his thoughts on "Drake Night" at Wednesday's Warriors-Raptors game.

"There was a funny little video that he put together. It was cute. It was a nice night," Adams said on KNBR 680. "This franchise is really doing well up here. The crowds are good -- they just fill up, it's like New York, a lot of people downtown but it's a very nice crowd. They're excited about their team...

"He adds to the flare up here and of course, he's friends with many of our guys on our team. And they enjoy that kind of thing. And it reminds one of the symbiotic relationship now between sports and entertainment -- it's becoming more developed. It's kind of fun to see."

Drake sat courtside for the Warriors' win over the Thunder on Nov. 10.

He then was sitting front and center for Golden State's 117-97 loss to the Lakers at Staples Center the following night.

And Drake of course had a frontrow seat in Toronto on Wednesday night.

"He's been talking junk for a couple weeks now, talking about how they're gonna beat us," Draymond told reporters after the game. "It's 'Drake Night.' The shirt was nice, the shirt was really nice, but the boots were so bad. So I was a little disappointed in his outfit overall."

"These guys are just like our guys," Adams added. "Drake is just a normal guy who is talented. It's interesting to be around guys like that because they're just normal people with gifts, and they use their gifts well just like our athletes do.

"There's a great deal of respect I think because of the performance-based aspect of what each entity does, and the pressures associated with it."

Does Adams, who turns 69 on Friday, listen to Drake's music?

"Yeah, a little bit. He's good, he's real good."
