Gobert is the latest star to get bigger deal than Steph

Rudy Gobert isn't going anywhere. The Utah Jazz center is planting his flag in Salt Lake City, and is about to have a much bigger bank account.

The star big man told ESPN's Tim MacMahon on Sunday morning that he has agreed to a five-year, $205 million contract extension. The megadeal is the biggest contract for a center in NBA history, and it also makes Gobert the latest player to have a deal worth more than Steph Curry's.

When Curry signed a five-year, $201 million contract with the Warriors in the summer of 2017, it was the NBA's first $200 million deal and the largest in the sport's history. A lot can change in three-plus years.

There now are three players -- Gobert ($205 million), Russell Westbrook ($207 million) and Giannis Antetokounmpo ($228 million) -- who have agreed to or signed larger deals than Curry. But the Warriors still have two of the five most expensive contracts in the NBA.

While Curry's $201 million contract is the fourth-most expensive contract in basketball, Klay Thompson's $190 million deal is tied with Los Angeles Lakers star Anthony Davis for the fifth-most expensive contract in the game. Unfortunately for the Warriors, Thompson's first two seasons under his giant contract will happen without him playing a single game for Golden State due to a torn ACL and torn Achilles.

Gobert, 28, averaged 15.1 points, 13.5 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game last season. He is a two-time Defensive Player of the Year, has been named All-NBA three times and has made the All-Defensive team four times. It's understandable why the Jazz would hand him a huge contract, but it still feels a bit wrong seeing him and Westbrook make more than Curry.

Curry has two more years on his current contract, and could be in line for an extension. For now, though, the two-time MVP is focused on getting the Warriors back to the playoffs and quieting doubters once again.
