Should Warriors trade for Gordon, flip picks with Magic?

There could be a lot of moving pieces around the NBA come draft night on Nov. 18. One of them reportedly could be Orlando Magic forward Aaron Gordon.

Orlando is looking to package Gordon and its No. 15 pick to move up in the lottery, league sources have told The Ringer's Kevin O'Connor. Might the Warriors be a suitor for the Magic? It's complicated but makes plenty of sense.

Gordon would be a dream player for the Warriors. The San Jose native starred in high school for Archbishop Mitty, fits a position need as a big wing/forward and still is only 25 years old. What makes this a bit complicated is his two years and $34.45 remaining on his contract falls slightly outside of the Warriors' traded player exception

Let's say the Warriors figure out the financials. Is Gordon worth going from the No. 2 pick in the draft down to No. 15? A trade with the Chicago Bulls, Detroit Pistons or New York Knicks might be more intriguing as the Warriors would stay in the top 10. But they also likely wouldn't get a player as skilled as Gordon.

The high-flyer is more than just a dunk contest star. Gordon is extremely skilled for his 6-foot-8 frame. Many believe he hasn't lived up to expectations as a former No. 4 overall pick, but much of that could do with his situation and usage with the Magic. He could really benefit from a change of scenery.

Gordon averaged 14.4 points, 7.7 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game last season. Good but not great. However, the previous two season before that, he averaged 16.7 points per game while shooting 34.3 percent from beyond the arc.

In the right situation, Gordon could be a playmaking big man who can also spot up from beyond the arc. He wouldn't be the 7-footer that many believe the Warriors need, or a dominant scorer, but he wouldn't have to be on this team. The Warriors already have that in Steph Curry and Klay Thompson, and even Andrew Wiggins.

Throwing out a lineup of Curry, Thompson, Wiggins, Gordon and Draymond Green would be just as good as any in the NBA. The number-crunchers can figure out the financials. There's a reason why I took freshman math as a senior in college.

Gordon brings the playmaking ability as a big wing that the Warriors are coveting right now. This comes down to being comfortable with falling that far in the draft, but it certainly makes sense to bring the Bay Area native home.
