Steph applauds Mahomes' rare MVP feat, Super Bowl LVII win

Warriors

Steph Curry knows all about championship performances, and the Warriors star had to shout out Patrick Mahomes after the quarterback led the Kansas City Chiefs to Super Bowl LVII glory Sunday.

Shortly after Mahomes hoisted the Lombardi trophy and the Super Bowl Most Valuable Player Award, Curry took to Instagram to congratulate his friend.

On an injured ankle, Mahomes completed 21 of 27 pass attempts for 182 yards passing and three touchdowns against the Philadelphia Eagles. He also racked up 44 yards rushing on six carries -- including a pivotal 26-yard gain in the fourth quarter of Kansas City's eventual 38-35 win at State Farm Stadium.

With his Super Bowl win, Mahomes joined Curry in a rare club after being named the 2022 NFL MVP just days before for his regular-season efforts. Curry and Mahomes are the last two players in the NBA and NFL, respectively, to take home the league's MVP award and win a championship in the same season.

The elite accomplishment has been achieved by NBA legends like Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain, LeBron James and Michael Jordan, to name a few, and NFL stars such as Joe Montana, Steve Young and Emmitt Smith.

Curry joined the club after the 2014-15 NBA season when he was named league MVP for the first time, before the Warriors defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2015 NBA Finals. And while this year marked Mahomes' second NFL MVP award and Super Bowl victory, it was the first time he has won both in the same season.

It could be quite some time before Curry sees his hometown Carolina Panthers win a Super Bowl. But in the meantime, it's nice to see him support his equally-as-athletic pal Mahomes.
