With nothing on the line Friday night against the New Orleans Pelicans, the Warriors are doing the smart thing.
The Warriors will rest Steph Curry, Draymond Green and Andrew Wiggins on Friday, coach Steve Kerr confirmed to reporters before the game, making sure their top three players will be as fresh as can be for Sunday's critical season finale against the Memphis Grizzlies at Chase Center.
Kerr said Jordan Poole, Mychal Mulder, Kent Bazemore, Juan Toscano-Anderson and Kevon Looney will start against New Orleans.
The Athletic's Anthony Slater first reported Friday that the Warriors would rest their three starters.
While Curry and Green both will miss their ninth games of the season, Wiggins will be sitting for the first time.
The Warriors and Grizzlies currently are tied for eighth place in the Western Conference with two games to play. The winner of Sunday's matchup will earn the No. 8 seed in the play-in tournament while the loser will be the No. 9 seed and face the San Antonio Spurs.
The Grizzlies, who will face the Kings on Friday, also will sit their key players including Ja Morant, Jaren Jackson Jr. and Dillon Brooks.

It will be a wild weekend in the NBA with very little determined as far as playoff seeding.
The Los Angeles Lakers currently are slated to be the No. 7 seed in the play-in tournament. The Lakers will need to win both of their final two games and hope either the Portland Trail Blazers lose their finale against the Denver Nuggets, or the Dallas Mavericks lose their final two games to avoid that fate.
There still is much to be decided, but everything comes down to Sunday for the Warriors and Grizzlies.
