Steph Curry explains why ‘it would suck' to play NBA games minus fans

Would Warriors superstar Steph Curry enjoy playing in an NBA game without any fans in attendance?

No.

"It would suck if there weren't any fans," the two-time NBA MVP said Tuesday on the "The Rory & Carson Podcast" with professional golfer Rory McIlroy and NBC television host/personality Carson Daly.

Because of the coronavirus pandemic, one possible outcome is resuming the 2019-20 NBA season at some point this summer in empty arenas.

"I know they would love to play the games," Curry said. "But, man -- I couldn't imagine."

As of now, the PGA Tour is planning to hold tournaments beginning in June without any spectators on the golf courses for at least the first four tournaments.

"I could play without fans, but I don't think I'd play as well -- especially if you're in the heat of battle on a Sunday, back-nine," McIlroy said. "You feed off that energy. You hear roars on other parts of the golf course and you sort of know what's going on. Like, 'Oh s--t, someone made a birdie.' Or you're looking at a leaderboard going, 'OK, I need to do this the next few holes.'

"All those dynamics are at play when you have people there and watching. To take that away, it just ... I would find it very difficult. I'd feel flat. I'd feel lethargic. I'm so used to playing in front of people -- especially when it means something. Steph, you're nodding your head there. I'm sure it's the exact same for you guys."

The three-time NBA champion then discussed how the Warriors were going to play the Brooklyn Nets at Chase Center on March 12 without any fans allowed in the building.

"I don't think anybody was looking forward to it by any stretch," Steph said. "If you fast forward to maybe this summer ... (NBA) Finals -- if they walk into an empty building -- I don't know how that's memorable.

"The atmosphere, the adrenaline rush (with fans). At home or on the road -- it's so cool just to make those adjustments and feel how you're body feels, and how your mind is racing in those moments."

Couldn't agree more.

But, it would be better than not playing at all.
