How Steph, Klay's playing time convinced Jerome to join Dubs

Ty Jerome has been a revelation for the Warriors in the 2022-23 NBA season.

The fourth-year guard stated on the latest episode of the "Point Forward" podcast, that one key factor in signing with Golden State was the playing time of the Warriors' two biggest stars, Steph Curry and Klay Thompson.

"So that's why for me ... and Golden State said, 'Alright listen, Steph's not going to play 82, Klay might not play back-to-backs,' " Jerome recalled. "So from there, I was like, 'Alright, I can get in here, I can get in there, build on it from there,' and I was going to be a part of a winning culture.

"So it was just like a no-brainer for me."

The 25-year-old is a self-proclaimed "winner" and as such, he looked for a situation that best fit him after being waived by the Houston Rockets on Sept. 30, 2022.

And so, when Golden State reached out to Jerome, he didn't hesitate.

"I think when Golden State called, it was just like, 'Wait, I can learn from those dudes and try to impact winning and be ready when my number's called,' " Jerome said.

So far this season, Jerome has produced, despite his sporadic minutes.

In 24 games this season, Jerome is averaging 7.3 points, 2.4 assists and 1.6 rebounds in just over 18 minutes a game. He's shooting 49.2 percent from the field, 38.2 percent from 3-point range and 96.2 percent from the free-throw line.

Jerome has been so impressive this season that Warriors coach Steve Kerr called the two-way player a "godsend" on Nov. 6.

That said, with both Jerome and Anthony Lamb -- the Warriors' two-way players -- playing well, Kerr knows Golden State has tough decisions looming regarding the status of both players.

While it is unlikely that both Jerome and Lamb get signed by the Warriors for the remainder of the season, Kerr acknowledged that there is a possibility both make the roster moving forward

Regardless of what happens, Jerome has been one of the few bright spots in Golden State's otherwise mediocre season.

And that should be enough to garner him a spot in the NBA.
