Steph Curry has been playing out of his mind this season for the Warriors, and if he played at this pace in a standard 82-game NBA campaign, he potentially would shatter his 3-point field goals made record.
The NBA is playing a 72-game season in 2020-21 due to the coronavirus pandemic and delayed finish to the 2019-20 season.
Curry never has played a full 82 games in his NBA career, with his career-high being 80 games in a regular season. Steph played 80 games in his rookie season with the Warriors, as well as the 2014-15 campaign when Curry won his first NBA MVP.
If he missed eight games in a normal season, as he has in 2020-21, a 5.4 3-pointers made per game average over 74 games would end up with 400 3-pointers, just two shy of his all-time NBA record of 402.
The math above is correct, however, in that Steph playing 79 or 82 games even and making 3-pointers at this rate would smash his own record.
For this season, Curry is going to stand alone far and away with the most 3-pointers. Kings guard Buddy Hield has the second-most 3-pointers this season, 269, and would need to average almost 14 makes a game from downtown to even catch Curry's current number over the final four games of the regular season.
Either way, it has been a pleasure for Warriors fans to see a reinvigorated Curry once again lighting up the NBA as he nears the end of his 12th season.
