Steph still ‘feeling emotions' of 3-point record chase

Steph Curry broke Ray Allen's NBA record for career 3-pointers more than a month ago, but the pressure of that pursuit still is weighing on the Warriors star.

"It’s weird because I’m still feeling the emotions of that," Curry told The Athletic's Shams Charania in a recent interview. "It was so emotional with the lead-up and all of that. It’s nice to have that weight off my shoulder and just enjoy the way that I play the game. Every 3 that I make now is a new record, which is kind of funny, but I still have a lot of gratitude for all the people that celebrated it with me."

Curry has played in 12 games since becoming the all-time 3-point king against the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden on Dec. 14, 2021, and his numbers aren't up to the standards he has set for himself.

In those 12 games, Curry is averaging 24.9 points on 39.6 percent shooting from the field and 34.3 percent from beyond the arc.

Curry's slump has been even more pronounced over the last six games, where he's averaging 18.2 points on 33.9 percent from the field and a staggering 25.5 percent from 3-point range. In four of those games, he failed to score 20 points, and he even had a nine-point performance against the Miami Heat, though the Warriors won that game.

Curry was the NBA MVP frontrunner for the first two months of the season, but his recent rough stretch has opened the door for other stars to gain ground in the race.

In the lead up to Curry getting the record, coach Steve Kerr admitted that the entire team might have been pressing considering they were trying to get Steph the record. But now that the milestone is in the rearview mirror, the Warriors should be able to play freely.

Apparently for Curry, that's not the case.
