Steph's historic eight-game run has him in elite company

Steph Curry is on an absolute scoring tear over his last eight games, the likes of which we never have seen from the Warriors star.

Curry has put up 311 points over his last eight outings (38.9 PPG), the most he ever has scored over that span and the most by a Warrior since Rick Barry scored 315 over an eight-game period in 1967, per Elias Sports Bureau.

Curry's 311 also is the most over an eight-game stretch in the NBA since Bradley Beal -- who currently is Steph's top competitor for the scoring title -- had 313 over eight games in the 2019-20 season.

Over Curry's past eight games, he is shooting 49.1 percent from 3-point range on 13.5 attempts per game, and also is averaging 6.6 rebounds and 4.6 assists.

The star has been unstoppable since returning from a five-game absence in late March due to a tailbone contusion he suffered in Houston against the Rockets. He has a one-game gap in that streak, as he sat out the Warriors' blowout loss to the Toronto Raptors on April 2.

Curry has made some history along the way in that streak, as he passed Wilt Chamberlain to become the Warriors' all-time leading scorer with a 53-point effort against the Denver Nuggets earlier this week.

In his 12th NBA season, Curry currently has the best scoring average of his career (30.7), topping the 30.1 he averaged to win the league's scoring title in 2015-16 -- the same year Curry earned his second MVP trophy.

With Klay Thompson out for a second consecutive season with a major injury, Curry has been forced to carry the brunt of the load offensively for the Warriors. Draymond Green, who has been dishing out a career-best 8.6 assists per game, is scoring just 6.7 points per game, which would be his lowest season average since 2013-14.

Beal still is slightly edging Curry out for the best scoring average in the league (31.0), but if Steph can keep this scorching-hot streak going, we could see him pass the talented young shooting guard by season's end.

Although the Warriors still are fighting to remain within the conversation for a spot in the new play-in tournament, and have dealt with devastating injuries both to Thompson and No. 2 overall draft pick James Wiseman, Curry's brilliance remains a great privilege for fans to observe night in and night out.

Considering that the Cleveland Cavaliers are the Warriors' opponent on Thursday night, there is good reason to believe Curry can maintain this dominant stretch. Curry shoots 50 percent from 3-point range in his regular-season career against the Cavaliers, the best mark Steph has shot against any opposing team in his historic career.

Looks like the forecast could call for some rain in Cleveland.
